Welcome from the Dean

The presence of the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics is among the most unique features of the undergraduate academic program at Washington and Lee University. All students, regardless of major, are eligible to take coursework in economics, business, and politics in the Williams School. The mission of the Williams School is set forth below:

The School educates students in the liberal arts tradition, enriches their understanding of the economy, business, and politics, and inspires them to serve society with vision and integrity.

The mission of the University uniquely conditions the academic setting and environment in which the Williams School operates. Small class sizes allow faculty to focus on the development of analytical skills, writing and oral communication, and moral and ethical issues interwoven throughout business and public administration.

Dean PeppersIn addition to a rich array of traditional courses (see the University catalogue), students can participate in a number of unique off-campus opportunities – competitive business internships, study abroad with Washington and Lee faculty, and the Washington Semester Program. The Williams Investment Society is a student run organization that functions as an independent investment manager for a portion of the University’s endowment. The W&L Student Consulting Group provides pro bono consulting services for small businesses and non-profit organizations.

Graduates of the Williams School follow many different paths—from investment banking to public accounting to public service to law school (just to name a few). Our graduates are in high demand from top companies across the US and abroad and are routinely admitted to the premier graduate schools worldwide.
