Professor Pirkle joined W&L's faculty in 1989. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he worked as a staff accountant with a CPA firm and then purchased and managed an accounting practice.
While at Clemson, he was a consultant with the Small Business Development Center, assisting entrepreneurs to develop business plans and manage day-to-day operations. He actively consults with golf-related business, as well as a number of entrepreneurial ventures.
Professor Pirkle served as Head of the Management Department from 1995-2000. He teaches Strategic Management, Statistics, and Entrepreneurship. He also directs the Management Department Internship Program, which places students with W&L alumni and friends in summer positions.
His wife, Claudia, is an admissions officer at Virginia Military Institute. They have two children. His son, Brian, is a member of W&L's class of 2005.
