Professor Schwartz joined the W&L faculty in 2006 as an associate professor. He had previously taught finance at the University of Miami, the University of Georgia and the University of Mississippi. At Washington and Lee, Professor Schwartz teaches courses in Financial Management, Investments, and Financial Derivatives. For the new spring term, Professor Schwartz is planning a “life finance” course. He also serves as a faculty advisor to the Williams Investment Society (WIS).
Much of Professor Schwartz’s research is in the area of option pricing. He has published research papers in several finance journals including: The Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, The Journal of Derivatives, the Journal of Financial Engineering, The Journal of Futures Markets, and the Journal of Financial Research. His current research includes work on option pricing, a test of technical models used by stock investors, and a study of trends in academic salaries since the 1980’s.
Professor Schwartz lives in Lexington with his wife, Elizabeth, son Robert (who likes to hear stories), and Strawberry (11lb Bichon Frise who likes chicken). In his spare time, Professor Schwartz enjoys snorkeling, golf, exercise, chess, piano and watching the Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He also calculates the payouts for the World Series of Poker, held each year in Las Vegas.
